Wonderful Pomegranate - Punica granatum 'Wonderful'
Ripens from September to early October. Dazzling red flowers make their appearance in summer, followed by softball sized fruit. Large, deep purple-red fruit has a medium thick, tough rind. Flesh is a deep crimson color, juicy and of a delicious vinous flavor. Seeds are not very hard. This variety is better for juicing than for eating out of hand. The plant is vigorous and productive. It is a good idea to keep them pruned back to under 10' tall to keep limbs from breaking. Leave these on the dry side to prevent cracking. Watering in the late fall will cause rotting. When harvesting the fruit from your pomegranate tree , use gardening shears to snip the stem that connects the fruit to the tree.
