Japanese Hardy Banana (Musa basjoo) - Cold Hardy Tropical

Our cold-hardy banana tree needs particular care, but under the right conditions, it is a fine ornamental specimen tree in the warmer zones. It does not like harsh winters with deep, sub-zero temps, but it will tolerate -20 degrees if properly mulched. At 40 degrees, it stops growing; at 28, leaves die back and the tree can be pruned to 2' - 3' tall; at - 40, it dies back to the ground. In warmer zones, it can grow 2' a week!
