Shumard Oak - Native Shade Tree

Excellent Summer-time Shade Tree. Brilliant Autumn color (red, orange) make the Shumard oak a great choice for larger landscapes. Growing to 80' tall with a 50' to 60' spread it forms a stately tree. The four to 8" long leaves are deeply-lobed and have bristles on the tips of some lobes. The Crown shape is round to oval. Hardy from zone 5B-9B. Acorns in fall are 1.5 inches in size. Planted on 30' to 40' centers, it will form a closed canopy over a two-lane street in 20 to 25 years with good growing conditions. A native of the bottomlands of the southeastern United States. Grows well in full sun on a wide variety of soils. Although it prefers moist soils, it will tolerate drier locations.
